Power factor questions

How is power factor calculated?

Bullet weight in grains multiplied by average velocity in feet per second, divided by 1000, with the decimals dropped. A 124 grain bullet at 1,070 ft/s gives 132.68, which counts as 132.

Why are the decimals dropped?

Both rulebooks drop the decimals (IPSC Rule 5.6.3.5; USPSA Appendix C2), so 164.99 does not make 165. Leave a margin: match chronos, temperature and lot-to-lot differences all move your numbers.

Does this give load data?

No. It only does the arithmetic on figures you enter. Follow published load data from the powder or bullet maker.

Can I put this calculator on my club website?

Yes. Use the embed box on this page. It is free and runs on your site.
