Which mount suits your pistol
The right answer starts with what your slide already has. A dovetail mount replaces the rear sight and suits a Shadow 2 that has never been cut for optics — no gunsmithing, no permanent change to the slide. An optic-ready mount is for slides already cut from the factory, and sits lower. Frame mounts for 1911/2011 and SVI platforms carry the optic on the frame rather than the slide, so the optic does not move as the slide cycles.
Match the footprint before you order. The mount has to suit your optic, not just your pistol, and footprint families are not interchangeable.
Division matters
Before you buy, check the mount against the division you shoot. IPSC Production Optics and USPSA Carry Optics both restrict how an optic may be mounted; Open Division does not. A mount that is legal in one is not automatically legal in the other, and rules move. Mounts and kits
